California fixer-upper gets a modern facelift
This 102 m² (1100 ft²) two-bedroom home in Mountain View was built in the 1970s.
It came with the musty smell, old brown shelving, dull cream colours, stained carpets, and old appliances throughout. As the saying goes: One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Our goal with this formerly rundown space was to create contrast by retaining the original architecture while modernising the design.
We gutted the entire place and added subway tiles throughout the kitchen and bathrooms. The sliding kitchen door was removed to create a more open and welcoming space. Herringbone (a touch of Paris!) was added in the form of slate floors in the bathroom. Several shades of grey are found throughout the home, with vibrant deep orange accent walls in the dining area. Whisman is a beautiful display of modern design bringing new life and energy to an outdated space.
